๐Ÿ The Los Angeles Rams Helmet Story

Every painted helmet in football traces back to this team. In 1948, Rams halfback Fred Gehrke โ€” an art major โ€” hand-painted ram horns on the team's leather helmets, creating the first helmet logo in pro football history. The horns have curled across every Rams helmet since, from royal-and-yellow classics to the current bone-and-blue gradient.

๐Ÿง  Collector's Trivia

  • Fred Gehrke painted the original horns himself and touched them up by hand after every game โ€” he's in the Hall of Fame for it.
  • The Rams were the first NFL team on the West Coast (moving from Cleveland in 1946).
  • Like the Bucs, the Rams won their Super Bowl (LVI) in their own home stadium.
